Jakarta (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni has set a target to distribute 17 million free tree seedlings to the public by the end of 2025.

“We are targeting the distribution of 17 million tree seedlings to the public in 2025, all free of charge,” Antoni remarked in a ministry's statement received here on Monday.

He explained that the Forestry Ministry currently operates 54 permanent nurseries with a production capacity of 1 million seedlings each, as well as seven large-scale nurseries producing over 5 million seedlings annually.

These are managed by the Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS) and the Forest Plant Seed Agency (BPTH).

The total production target for 2025 is 17 million seedlings, with funding sourced from the State Budget (APBN) for 10 million seedlings and the remaining 7 million funded under the FOLU Net Sink 2030 program.

“These seedlings are being distributed from all nurseries operated by the Ministry,” Antoni said.

Recently, the ministry has distributed one thousand seedlings to residents in Bogor, West Java, following a visit to the Rumpin Seed Nursery.

According to Antoni, the Rumpin Nursery has a role in rehabilitating critical land and supporting community welfare, part of President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions to preserve and optimize forests for the benefit of the people.

“As a member of the President’s cabinet, I have been instructed by President Prabowo to safeguard forests and maximize their function to improve public welfare,” he stated.

One of the efforts includes maximizing the cultivation of seedlings of non-timber forest products, such as mangoes, avocados, durians, and others, which will later help improve community welfare.

“These seedlings are free. Each person, with just an ID card, can receive up to 25 tree seedlings,” Antoni added.
