"The principles of innovation are that it must not create conflicts of interest. It must be public interest-oriented, implemented transparently, meet propriety standards, and be accountable," BSKDN Head Yusharto Huntoyungo said in a statement on Thursday.
He delivered the remarks during a webinar on innovation discussion and evaluation held by the Jambi Provincial Government.
Huntoyungo noted that innovation should be measured by how effectively it solves public problems, rather than by the level of sophistication it presents.
He stressed that effective innovation must be accountable, transparent, and capable of addressing issues faced by both the government and the public. If the benefits are not felt, he said, the innovation has not met its intended goals.
He added that innovation must not create new burdens or limitations for the public. Instead, it should serve as an inclusive and effective tool to address community problems.
According to him, these principles provide essential guidance to ensure that regional innovation does not become a mere administrative exercise but delivers positive and sustainable outcomes.
He also underlined the importance of viewing innovation from the perspective of beneficiaries, particularly when carrying out replication, which he said is crucial to accelerating equitable improvements in public services and regional governance.
Huntoyungo highlighted that innovation is part of the exercise of regional authority and the application of scientific principles, meaning its processes must be rational, observable, and reproducible.
He noted a common misconception in several regions that innovation is synonymous with digitalization, whereas regional innovation reporting data shows that non-digital innovations remain predominant.
He added that accountable, transparent, and replicable innovations are expected to strengthen regional governance and provide public services that are increasingly accessible, efficient, and beneficial to communities.
