Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called on final-year university students to engage in national projects aligned with the Asta Cita program to strengthen their readiness for post-graduation work.

In a meeting at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto said students should gain practical experience before graduating.

“Final-year students should be involved in national projects tied to Asta Cita and other initiatives, so they are ready to contribute immediately after graduation,” Brian told reporters at the presidential palace.

Brian said his discussion with President Prabowo focused on accelerating the preparation of Indonesia’s human resources to meet the demands of various development sectors.

The president emphasized the importance of preparing prospective graduates early, giving them hands-on opportunities in strategic national projects across sectors including agriculture and industry.

“Human resource preparation means training campus graduates in areas needed by the nation before they finish their studies,” Brian explained.

When asked about a national internship program, Brian confirmed that final-year students could also be included in project assignments as part of broader hands-on experience.

“Internships are part of it, but the president wants a wider approach. Even before formal internships, students should practice skills relevant to their fields,” Brian added.

The policy aims to strengthen the readiness of Indonesia’s workforce in strategic sectors, ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to priority areas under the Asta Cita framework.

It reflects the Prabowo administration’s focus on aligning higher education with national development goals, ensuring that graduates contribute immediately to the country’s economic and technological growth.
