Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) promoted skilled Indonesian workers at a diplomatic reception marking the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Indonesian Embassy in Athens, Greece, on Thursday.

The promotion was carried out by Deputy Minister of P2MI Christina Aryani during her visit to Greece to encourage the competitiveness of Indonesian workers in the global job market.

“One of the main focuses entrusted to me by President Prabowo is to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian workers internationally,” Aryani said in a written statement issued on Friday.

She underscored President Prabowo Subianto’s Golden Indonesia 2045 vision as a national development direction aimed at building an advanced, competitive and prosperous nation through global cooperation in the economy, trade and investment.

With a population of 281 million people, including 43 percent of productive age, Indonesia is the largest country in ASEAN and has strong potential to supply highly competitive skilled labor.

“This is an opportunity that must be maximized to improve welfare and support national progress. KP2MI is working to ensure that Indonesian workers gain a stronger competitive edge,” she said.

Aryani highlighted the growth of Greece’s economy, particularly in tourism, construction and maritime industries, which face an urgent need for skilled workers.

“We see significant opportunities for employment cooperation. Greece needs skilled labor, and Indonesia has productive human resources ready to contribute,” she said.

Cooperation between Indonesia and Greece is based on the 2019 Economic Cooperation Agreement and the 2023 Plan of Action on Advancing Economic Cooperation, which open opportunities in trade, investment, tourism and skilled worker placement.

“We are committed to expanding the placement of Indonesian workers abroad through mechanisms that ensure their safety and well-being, which are vital elements of Indonesia’s labor diplomacy,” Aryani added.

The deputy minister expressed hope that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Greece will continue to grow and deliver tangible benefits for both countries.

In addition to the diplomatic reception, the Indonesian Embassy in Athens also held an Economic and Cultural Exhibition to showcase national products, MSME creativity and Indonesia’s artistic heritage, aimed at expanding cooperation networks and promoting Indonesian identity.
