“To meet clean energy needs, one of the main priorities supporting IKN’s development is the construction of a PLTS in collaboration with PT NSSE (PT Nusantara Sembcorp Solar Energi),” OIKN head Basuki Hadimuljono said on Saturday.
He emphasized that establishing clean energy infrastructure is an integral part of IKN’s vision to become a sustainable forest city.
Green energy, he added, forms the foundation of Indonesia’s future capital, which is designed to be efficient, low-emission, and nature-friendly.
The IKN Authority has signed a cooperation agreement with PT NSSE, a joint venture owned by PLN Nusantara Renewables and Sembcorp Utilities Pte. Ltd., to build a 50-megawatt solar power plant.
The facility, located in an area with strong solar irradiance, is projected to generate 92.8 GWh of electricity annually.
Basuki expressed confidence that the PLTS will become a strategic asset in delivering clean energy to IKN.
He noted that the plant will serve as the backbone of IKN’s green electricity system, ensuring a reliable energy supply and supporting the acceleration of the transition toward a low-carbon power grid.
According to Basuki, the project will also reinforce efforts to achieve sustainable development at IKN by prioritizing emission reduction and energy efficiency from the earliest stages of city planning.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing Indonesia’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
Basuki ensured that all city infrastructure at IKN is developed with low-carbon principles.
He explained that IKN is not only being built as a modern and smart city, but also as a driving force for national clean energy transformation and Indonesia’s commitment to a sustainable future.
The construction of the solar power plant represents a concrete step toward strengthening energy security and accelerating the shift to a green, renewable-based electricity ecosystem, he said.
