“This bridge was constructed after the main access route was completely cut off when the overflowing river damaged the connecting road,” said Colonel Asrul Kurniawan Harahap, Head of the Kodam I/Bukit Barisan Information Unit (Kapendam), in Medan on Sunday.
The temporary bridge was built with support from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) team and volunteers, using logs carried downstream by the flood.
“The logs were stacked to create a crossing point, especially for pedestrians,” he said.
Asrul noted that although the structure was not permanent, it provided a swift solution for residents needing to cross between Batang Toru and Sibolga and supported the movement of logistical aid to affected areas.
“The temporary crossing has accelerated aid distribution and facilitated the evacuation of residents still impacted by the flood,” he added.
“We continue to coordinate with the local government until conditions return to normal.”
The Kodam I/BB Disaster Management Task Force also recovered the body of a man who died in the flooding in Aek Nadol Village, Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli District, on Saturday, November 29.
“The body was found trapped in a pile of wood carried by the flood,” Asrul said.
