Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto said in a statement on Sunday that emergency measures are focused on search and rescue operations, the fulfillment of survivors’ basic needs, the reopening of isolated areas, and the acceleration of logistics delivery.
“BNPB ensures that the state is acting swiftly through close coordination among local governments, ministries, agencies, the military, the police, and volunteers,” he said.
Regarding the disasters’ impact, Suharyanto said BNPB has recorded 166 fatalities and 143 missing in various districts and cities across North Sumatra.
“Today, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) led a joint emergency operation and found 60 deceased victims,” he stated.
He added that hydrometeorological disasters have claimed 47 lives, injured eight people, and left 51 others missing in Aceh, with 48,887 families displaced.
“This data is being updated, as joint SAR operations are still underway. We may therefore find additional victims,” he said, noting that most survivors are taking shelter in North Aceh District, Bener Meriah District, Central Aceh District, and Aceh Singkil District.
In West Sumatra, he reported 90 fatalities, 85 missing, and 10 injured, with Agam District recording the highest number of victims. The disasters have displaced 77,918 residents from 11,820 families across the province.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, Suharyanto said BNPB has been working with relevant institutions to deploy the necessary tools and equipment to ensure rapid search, rescue, and evacuation efforts.
He also noted that BNPB has set up Starlink-powered emergency communication networks in several locations to support disaster response operations.
