Padang Pariaman (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the nation’s wealth is properly managed and safeguarded so it can truly benefit the people, including victims of natural disasters in Sumatra.

The President delivered the remarks during a visit to residents affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, on Monday.

“The Government of the Republic of Indonesia belongs to the people, works for the people, and is devoted to the people. We will manage and protect the nation’s wealth so it can help the public,” he said.

The Head of State stressed that the government continues to tighten oversight to prevent the leakage of state funds, and to stop those who steal from the public.

Such crimes, he said, not only harm the state but also cause suffering among the people. Even so, if theft does occur, he said, the recovered money will be returned to the people.

“The money they steal will all be returned to the people,” he stated.

During the visit, the President also conveyed his condolences to families who had suffered losses and offered prayers for the people of West Sumatra, hoping they remain strong and resilient in the face of the disaster.

He also hoped that the public would trust that the government will not allow the people to bear the burden alone amid the ongoing crisis.

“Therefore, let us help one another and stay united through these hard times, and together welcome a better future,” he emphasized.

The death toll from floods and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra has continued to rise, reaching 442, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) in a report received in Jakarta on Monday.

Meanwhile, the total number of missing persons across the three provinces has reached 402.
