Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman noted that Indonesia is ready to declare food self-sufficiency for strategic commodities like rice and corn on December 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in line with the national target.

He emphasized that the self-sufficiency target can be realized because of increased national production and increasingly stable food distribution, ensuring that Indonesia's food security is in a strong and well-maintained position.

"On December 31 at 12:00 p.m., we will announce Indonesia's self-sufficiency," Sulaiman remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.

The minister explained that the national government rice reserve (CBP) stock currently reaches 3.8 million tons, the highest amount in history, and is estimated to remain stable until the end of the year at around 3.7 million tons.

He added that the high rice stock is an important milestone because it demonstrates the consistent and increasing productivity of farmers and reflects the success of the national food strategy program.

Furthermore, he said, the stock, which is currently stored at the warehouses of state-run logistics firm Bulog, is fully sourced from Indonesian farmers' production, highlighting the country's ability to secure reserves without imports.

Previously, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) stated that Indonesia's rice production from January to December 2025 is projected to reach 34.79 million tons, an increase of 4.17 million tons, or a jump of 13.6 percent compared to 2024 (Year-on-Year).

Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics of BPS Pudji Ismartini on Monday explained that the potential increase is mainly contributed by the 26.54 percent increase in production recorded in the period of January to April 2025.

The greatest harvest potential is predicted to be seen on the island of Java, particularly in West Java, East Java, and Central Java. Meanwhile, in Sumatra, regions with the largest potential include Lampung, Aceh, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Significant potential is also observed in South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Kalimantan.
