Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s plan to build a “Hajj Village” in Saudi Arabia has gained support from the Muslim World League, Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak said Thursday, adding that the project is now part of wider talks with Riyadh.

Simanjuntak said President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation to both the Saudi government and the Muslim World League, noting that the Hajj Village is expected to significantly improve services for Indonesian pilgrims.

“The Muslim World League will help discuss the plan with the Saudi government, especially Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to facilitate Indonesia’s proposal to establish a Hajj Village,” Simanjuntak told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta.

He added that the League also plans to build a Prophet’s Museum in Jakarta, which would serve as a center for learning about the Prophet’s history and benefit Indonesia’s large Muslim community.

Earlier, Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, announced progress on the Hajj Village development in Mecca. Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Patria Sjahrir said the 80-hectare integrated project has entered the bidding phase, with 90 bidders competing. Results are expected in mid-December 2025.

The Hajj Village is designed as an integrated hub that will support Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims while showcasing Indonesian products and services to a global audience.

Alongside its formal participation in the bidding, Danantara is also exploring several business-to-business agreements with asset owners near the project site to address broader commercial needs of future visitors and Indonesian companies.

Sjahrir said the area will become a major platform for promoting Indonesia’s leading industries abroad.

The village will host sectors ranging from culinary and fashion to tourism, pharmaceuticals, media, and Sharia-compliant businesses, he said.
