Medan (ANTARA) - Joint search and rescue (SAR) teams continue to maximize their search efforts in areas affected by floods and landslides in Sibolga and Tapanuli Tengah District, North Sumatra.

Search operations resumed on Friday with expanded sweeps across the disaster zone.

Head of the Nias SAR Office, Putu Arga Sudjarwadi, said the search was supported by aerial monitoring using drones and additional personnel deployed to several sectors with a potential to locate victims.

He also urged residents to remain alert to extreme weather and immediately report any signs of additional victims.

Entering the eleventh day, Nias SAR recorded 49 fatalities in Sibolga City, with seven people still missing and 49 survivors. In Tapanuli Tengah District, there were 592 survivors, 110 fatalities, and 170 people still unaccounted for.

Putu Arga emphasized that all elements of the joint SAR teams continue to strengthen search operations in both areas. The teams are also monitoring isolated locations and delivering logistical assistance to hard-to-reach zones.

Aerial delivery of logistics was carried out to Botot Village, Sibuluan Nauli, and Kalangan Village in Tapanuli Tengah District.
