She stressed that all victims must receive proper assistance and that surviving families should be fully supported. Both central and regional governments, she said, need to respond to the tragedy more effectively, efficiently, and promptly.
“The kitchens must be up and running immediately. However, raw materials are still limited and this issue must be resolved,” Maharani said after attending a discussion forum here on Friday.
She expressed confidence that all parties are currently working at maximum capacity to carry out necessary actions.
She added that the DPR has also been trying to provide support in any way possible to ease the burden on disaster victims.
Although Commission IV of the DPR, which oversees agriculture, food, maritime affairs, and forestry, has summoned the Forestry Minister to evaluate suspected misuse of forest areas believed to have worsened flash floods, she said the DPR will first focus on disaster response.
“We will review the reports on this matter and follow up once the disaster response is completed,” she said.
Previously, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) repurposed 276 Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), or kitchens, across Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra as emergency kitchens for residents displaced by floods and landslides.
“In total, 276 SPPGs are still serving evacuees because during disasters, assistance is not only for children but for all affected residents,” BGN Head Dadan Hindayana said on December 3.
He explained that SPPGs are government facilities designed to serve anyone in any condition.
