He said this year’s implementation of the program maximally accommodates the accessibility needs of students with disabilities, including those enrolled in regular schools.
Mu'ti stated in Jakarta on Friday that one form of support is the commitment to ensure that at least one stall in every newly built toilet facility is designated for students with disabilities.
"If there are three stalls in a toilet facility, one of them will be dedicated to students with special needs, and we have begun implementing this in 2025," the minister said.
He added that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is preparing training programs for companion teachers who will assist students with disabilities in regular or inclusive schools, as well as in special needs schools.
According to Mu'ti, the training is part of the ministry’s efforts to meet the need for companion teachers for students with disabilities.
The government has launched the school revitalization program as one of the quick-win initiatives under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, targeting 16,177 schools nationwide in 2025.
The program includes rehabilitation, construction, and the provision of educational facilities and infrastructure to ensure schools have adequate resources to support continuous learning.
Earlier, Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) Hetifah Sjaifudian expressed hope that the program would improve accessibility for students with disabilities.
She emphasized that the provision of quality and inclusive education is mandated by the Constitution and national laws, making its implementation a shared responsibility beyond special needs schools.
