Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Alms Agency (Baznas) provides psychosocial support to help the mental recovery of children and vulnerable groups affected by floods and landslides in Padang City, West Sumatra.

"Baznas ensures that these services are part of the humanitarian response, so that children affected by the disaster can recover mentally and emotionally," Head of the Baznas Distribution and Utilization Division, Saidah Sakwan, said in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

She said the children participated in various games, educational activities, and interactive storytelling guided by specialized practitioners, designed to provide a safe space after facing an emergency situation.

"Through this support, Baznas strives to ensure that the emotional and psychological needs of survivors get as much attention as their physical needs," she said.

Sakwan explained that professional facilitators and fun activities help create a comfortable environment for children to express themselves without pressure.

"It provides a space for children to relieve stress and recover after experiencing a traumatic situation," she said.

According to her, the children's enthusiasm and the positive response from their parents underscore the critical need for these psychosocial services during the recovery process.

She emphasized that Baznas will continue to strengthen humanitarian services in affected areas, including providing follow-up assistance.

"Baznas is committed to supporting the community in every phase of recovery by providing food services, health care, and psychosocial support," she said.
