Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works said national roads in Langkat, North Sumatra, have been restored to normal conditions following recent flooding.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said the ministry’s preparedness, infrastructure, and resources have been key components in supporting disaster recovery efforts across affected regions.

“We are ensuring that equipment support from technical agencies can be mobilized whenever needed, including to open access and assist the evacuation process,” Dody said in a statement here on Sunday.

The ministry continues to support the restoration of national roads impacted by the flooding in Langkat. Based on the latest on-site monitoring, the Medan-Batas Aceh national road segment and the Medan-Pangkalan Brandan toll road are now considered safe and fully accessible to vehicles.

Floodwaters in several affected areas have completely receded. Tanjung Pura, the last severely impacted area, has also receded, although drainage work along the roads is still ongoing.

All previously affected road sections have returned to normal and are now accessible to the public for daily mobility and logistical distribution.

The accelerated response is part of a direct instruction from President Prabowo Subianto for all government institutions to act swiftly, in a coordinated and responsive manner, in handling the disasters across Sumatra.

As part of the recovery efforts, the Ministry of Public Works, through the North Sumatra National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN), continues field operations, including clearing flood debris from roadways and repairing potholes that may pose risks to motorists.

These efforts are being carried out to ensure the safety and comfort of road users.
