Kota Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - The West Sumatra Provincial Government is prioritizing the rapid construction of semi-permanent roadways to reconnect areas isolated by recent severe floods and landslides, Deputy Governor Vasko Ruseimy announced Sunday.

The government aims to make these temporary access routes passable for small to medium-sized vehicles within the next two weeks.

The urgency stems from the collapse of the national road, which has led to significant traffic congestion on remaining accessible routes and hampered the distribution of essential logistics.

Deputy Governor Ruseimy stressed that post-disaster operations are running optimally with full support from the central government.

Efforts continue to locate missing persons and break through isolation in cut-off communities.

To ensure aid distribution efficiency, administrative processes related to the delivery of relief have been strictly streamlined.

Ruseimy noted that the prosecutor’s office is monitoring these procedures to prevent any administrative delays or issues.

For areas completely inaccessible by land, the government is maximizing cross-sectoral support.

The Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force have deployed assets including vessels, aircraft, and cargo helicopters to deliver aid via air and sea routes.

In terms of public utilities, electricity supply has been largely restored, reaching 99.9 percent functionality.

However, clean water services remain constrained due to damaged intake facilities and high water turbidity from the regional water company.

Ruseimy assured that food availability remains sufficient, with ample supplies of rice and other staples.

This inventory is bolstered by continuous assistance from neighboring provinces and direct support from the central government.

Furthermore, West Sumatra is utilizing a real-time Disaster Dashboard for data monitoring, which Ruseimy credited as a vital tool for preventing misguided decisions based on incorrect information.

As a precaution against further extreme weather, the government is coordinating closely with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency to monitor conditions and prepare for potential weather modification options.
