Director General of Primary and Community Health Maria Endang Sumiwi said here on Sunday that this step responds to survey findings showing that 37.4 percent of Indonesians aged ten and above do not meet adequate activity standards.
"We are preparing an education program: when we meet people during the CKG, what are their results like? If their physical activity is lacking, we are creating a prescription for those with low physical activities,” she explained.
She noted that CKG frequently identifies low activity levels and emphasized that health improvement should not focus only on medication but include personalized activity guidance.
WHO recommends at least 30 minutes of daily exercise, yet Indonesian data as of November 2025 shows that 95.6 percent, or 15.2 million people, remain insufficiently active.
She added that recommendations will be tailored by age, such as advising daily brisk walking for 30 minutes in the morning.
CKG is conducted by 10,300 community health centers nationwide, making it a key platform for promoting preventive health measures.
Next year, CKG will expand to primary clinics beyond community health centers in line with shifting health-sector priorities toward prevention over treatment.
According to her, Indonesia aims to move from a mindset of seeking care only when ill to one focused on maintaining long-term health and fitness.
To assess a person’s fitness, five indicators are used: body composition, cardiovascular and abdominal endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, and muscle endurance.
"We can determine whether someone is actually fit or not. Being healthy doesn’t necessarily mean being fit. Being healthy means being free from diseases, but fitness is also determined by whether we can go up and down stairs without getting tired," Sumiwi expounded.
