Wamena (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military Task Force of Infantry Battalion 521/DY, stationed at the Kobakma Post in Central Mamberamo District, Highland Papua, continues to provide free medical services for local residents.

The initiative aims to improve public welfare, health, and quality of life in remote areas of Papua.

Lieutenant Colonel Rahadyan Surya Murdata, Commander of the Yonif 521/DY Task Force, emphasized the program’s focus on reaching underserved communities.

“The activity includes free medical services such as health check-ups, treatment, and health counseling in remote areas, particularly in regions where access to healthcare facilities remains limited,” he said in a statement received in Wamena on Wednesday.

Murdata noted that residents visit the Kobakma Post almost daily, seeking treatment for common ailments like headaches, coughs, and fatigue, or to check their blood pressure and obtain basic medications.

“Despite limited facilities, our personnel continue to provide the best possible service for residents seeking medical assistance,” he affirmed.

The post remains open to all, offering services at no cost. “We are always ready to assist anyone who comes for treatment,” Murdata added.

He highlighted that the program reflects the TNI’s commitment to a soft approach in national development, particularly in the health sector. “We hope this activity will strengthen ties between the TNI and local communities,” he said.

Murdata concluded that the initiative serves as tangible proof of the military’s role not only in maintaining security but also in promoting public health and demonstrating the state’s presence in remote regions.
