Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered ministers and regional leaders to prevent corruption across state institutions, particularly attempts to exploit the Sumatra disaster for personal gain.

In a meeting at Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base in Aceh Besar on Sunday, Prabowo said the disaster underscored the need for efficient resource management.

"This shows that we must manage all our resources optimally. I remind you that there must be no misuse or corruption in any government entity," he said. "It proved we need every ounce of our resources to overcome the people's difficulties."

Prabowo stressed that the government must mobilize all available resources and funding to support affected communities.

He instructed ministers and regional heads to review their staff and the projects under their authority.

"I do not want anyone exploiting this disaster for personal enrichment. I will take firm action, so no one profits from the people's suffering," he said.

Prabowo urged the National Police and regional administrations to monitor potential misuse and impose strict sanctions.

"All parties must check and note any misconduct, including unjustified price increases," he said.

After inspecting several disaster-hit areas in Aceh, Prabowo chaired a meeting on disaster management efforts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

He noted severe conditions in several areas, including damage to rice fields that could disrupt local food production and dam failures affecting irrigation systems.

Prabowo acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly those linked to natural conditions that require continued vigilance.

He said the government would ensure that response and recovery measures proceed in a gradual, measured, and sustainable manner to accelerate the restoration of community livelihoods.
