Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of National Development Planning Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard said that integrating human rights and eliminating discrimination are key strategies in Indonesia’s policy direction.

Speaking at the 2025 National Human Rights Development Planning Consultation in Jakarta on Monday, he emphasized that the government has placed human rights development as the top priority in the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

He said this commitment reinforces that Indonesia’s development must be grounded in respect for human rights, which form the foundation of economic, social, cultural, environmental and digital transformation policies.

Ruddyard noted that priority programs for mainstreaming, advancing and enforcing human rights require a shift toward approaches that are more humane, inclusive, sensitive to vulnerability and stronger in protection.

He invited participants to reassess the human rights situation in Indonesia, highlighting data on public complaints handled by the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and the remaining unresolved cases of past gross human rights violations.

According to him, complaints of alleged violations involving state officials and corporations indicate that systemic, cultural or governance issues still need to be addressed.

He added that the 12 unresolved cases of gross human rights violations serve as a reminder that fair settlement is an essential part of national reconciliation.

Ruddyard stressed that strengthening human rights compliance is not the responsibility of the Ministry of Human Rights alone, but also requires support from other ministries, agencies and regional governments as the frontline actors in realizing human rights fulfillment.

He expressed hope that the consultation would serve as a forum to align collaborative efforts and guide Indonesia’s development direction.
