Wijaya, through a post on the Instagram account @Sekretariat.kabinet on Thursday, wrote that President Prabowo departed directly for Islamabad after inspecting disaster response efforts in Bireuen, Aceh, last weekend.
A total of six JF-17 Thunder fighter jets belonging to the Pakistan Air Force escorted the Presidential Aircraft as it entered Pakistani airspace.
Upon arrival at Nur Khan Base Airport, President Prabowo was welcomed directly by Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“This visit also carries important historical significance, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Pakistan diplomatic relations,” Wijaya said.
In a joint press statement with Sharif, President Prabowo reaffirmed the commitment of the Indonesian and Pakistani governments to strengthening strategic cooperation in various sectors, including health, trade, education, agriculture, science and technology, and foreign affairs.
During the meeting, six cooperation agreements related to several of these sectors were also signed.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif said that his meeting with President Prabowo was highly productive and resulted in a number of important agreements to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Pakistan is also prepared to collaborate to help balance the trade volume, which currently stands at US$4.5 billion.
Furthermore, Wijaya also noted that President Prabowo received Pakistan’s highest civilian honor, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, awarded by President Zardari on behalf of the Government of Pakistan.
“Nishan-e-Pakistan is the highest honor within the Order of Pakistan, established on 19 March 1957,” he said.
