“The minimum wage - through the Manpower Ministry - will be announced when the timing is right, so that economic stability and political stability can be maintained in line with what the government will decide,” Afriansyah said in Bengkulu on Thursday.
He added that the National Wage Council and the tripartite body have been holding continuous meetings, even since March 2025.
“The discussions continue, of course, taking into account all aspects, including the Constitutional Court’s ruling No. 168/PUU-XXI/2023, as well as the Decent Living Needs (KHL). These are the key considerations,” he said.
According to Afriansyah, the Manpower Ministry will announce the UMP once the decision is final and requires no further revisions.
He noted that the recent disasters affecting several regions have also become one of the factors in determining and announcing the minimum wage.
“Yes, it is one of the factors, but only in certain regions. That is why the wage scale will not be uniform across all 38 provinces - each will not simply receive an identical percentage increase,” he said.
He explained that various economic considerations, including decent living standards and specific regional circumstances, will influence the wage levels for each province.
“These are the matters we are assessing. This is what we mean by a special formula. For instance, our communities in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh are currently facing disasters. How the final decision will affect them needs careful thought. But in any case, the 2026 minimum wage will be announced before December 31,” he said.
