Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas praised the establishment of 8,494 legal assistance posts in East Java.

“This places East Java among 29 provinces that have achieved 100 percent formation of legal assistance posts,” Agtas said in the ministry's statement confirmed here on Friday.

He noted that the posts complement the work of 91 accredited Legal Aid Providers (PBH) in East Java and strengthen the role of village paralegals.

He added that the posts are also supported by village heads who have been trained as non-litigation peacemakers.

The minister revealed that 42 village heads in East Java passed as non-litigation peacemakers, with six earning the 2025 Peacemaker Justice Award.

They are therefore expected to become the frontline for resolving disputes peacefully at the local level.

Agtas linked the posts to East Java’s cultural values, highlighting the philosophy Urip Iku Urup or "to live is to illuminate" as the spirit of village-based legal aid.

“Life must shine and benefit others. This philosophy is the soul of the legal assistance posts, which serve as a light for communities,” he said.

He added that East Java’s egalitarian, open, and candid character forms strong social capital for dialogue-based dispute resolution.

Village deliberation traditions, he said, provide an important foundation for developing community-rooted justice mechanisms.

During the event, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa expressed hope that the posts would not only offer legal consultation but embody the principle that law must be accessible to all.

“With legal assistance posts, communities now have space to ask questions, understand their rights, resolve disputes peacefully, and receive timely legal assistance,” she said.
