Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in Jakarta on Monday that the directive was issued during a limited cabinet meeting chaired by President Prabowo at his private residence in Bukit Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday (Dec. 14).
“The President wants the construction of temporary and permanent housing for all disaster-affected residents in Sumatra to be completed as quickly as possible,” he said.
The instructions came after President Prabowo conducted a series of on-site inspections in disaster-hit areas.
He visited multiple affected locations on Dec. 1, Dec. 7, Dec. 12, and Dec. 13, 2025.
During a coordination meeting at Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Base on Sunday (Dec. 7), National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head Suharyanto reported to the President that more than 30,000 homes in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra had been damaged by flash floods and landslides.
The number is expected to increase as BNPB and the Ministry of Public Works continue data verification.
Suharyanto proposed that temporary shelters be built by personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) deployed under a disaster response task force, while the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas would oversee the construction of permanent housing.
“For residents who do not need to relocate because the flooding impact is not severe but whose homes were damaged, repairs will be carried out by the BNPB task force,” Suharyanto said in his report.
BNPB has proposed a budget allocation of Rp60 million per unit for permanent housing and Rp30 million per unit for temporary shelters.
The temporary housing units will cover 36 square meters and include bedrooms, sanitation facilities, and other essential rooms.
