Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) Governor Ace Hasan Syadzily warned that national development and natural resource management that ignores environmental balance could lead to potential social and economic crises.

Therefore, he said, various national development programs, particularly in the economic sector, must take sustainable environmental balance into account.

“When natural resource management neglects the principles of balance and sustainability, ecological risks will increase and, in the end, lead to potential crises,” Syadzily said during the 2025 Year-End Reflection and the 2026 Outlook here on Tuesday.

He stated that climate change has become a multidimensional challenge that will directly affect geography, the economy, natural resources, and national security.

According to him, the floods and landslides that struck Sumatra toward the end of 2025 serve as a strategic lesson that national development must be integrated with disaster risk mitigation agendas and environmental sustainability.

“2026 should not be viewed merely as a continuation of the development agenda, but also as a phase of national consolidation to strengthen the nation’s resilience in facing uncertainty,” he said.

Syadzily added that Lemhannas is committed to further strengthening national resilience, reinforcing national character, and expanding Indonesia’s leadership role on the international stage.

Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto instructed regional governments to remain vigilant and better protect nature, including ensuring that no trees are cut down indiscriminately.

Prabowo delivered the directive in front of evacuees in Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh, on Friday (December 12). Aceh Tamiang was among the districts affected by flash floods and landslides on November 25.

“We must now be alert and cautious. We must protect our environment. We must not cut down trees indiscriminately,” the President said.
