Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming has emphasized that the national downstreaming program is designed to benefit all segments of society, including persons with disabilities.

Deputy for Strategic Investment Downstreaming Heldy Satrya Putera in a statement here on Wednesday said that downstreaming should not focus solely on increasing economic value added, but must also function as an empowerment tool that promotes fairness and inclusivity in development.

“An inclusive business environment is key to ensuring that no one is left behind in the development process,” he said.

On Tuesday, December 16, the ministry held a focus group discussion on facilitation and business opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the minister’s special staff for enhancing the role and business opportunities of persons with disabilities, Agus Diono, underscored the importance of expanding the empowerment of disability-owned businesses within the strategic investment downstreaming ecosystem.

He said investment should be directed to encourage the participation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including businesses run by persons with disabilities, through the development of mutually beneficial and value-added partnership models.

The focus group discussion (FGD) involved representatives from various ministries and institutions, regional investment and one-stop integrated services offices (DPMPTSP), academics, and disability communities.

The discussion addressed key issues, including access to financing for disability-owned businesses in investment and downstreaming partnerships, as well as policies and partnership mechanisms between large enterprises and micro, small, and medium enterprises.

The forum also discussed incentives for companies that employ and partner with persons with disabilities, including through vocational education and apprenticeship programs.

Based on the discussion, the ministry formulated a number of recommendations to strengthen an inclusive investment ecosystem, reaffirming the principle of “No One Left Behind” as a foundation of national investment and downstreaming development.
