Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno on Saturday reaffirmed the city’s commitment to widening job opportunities for people with disabilities, saying stronger access to work is essential to improving their independence and contributions to the capital’s development.

Rano delivered the remarks while opening a job fair for people with disabilities at Tarumanegara University in Grogol, West Jakarta.

“This event not only connects disabled job seekers with employers but also raises public awareness that job opportunities must be accessible to every resident,” he said.

He noted that Jakarta is pushing ahead with its transformation into a global city, yet still faces challenges, including an open unemployment rate of 6.05 percent as of August 2025.

“Even so, Jakarta contributed 16.39 percent to the national economy, and its year-on-year growth reached 4.96 percent in the third quarter of 2025. These numbers show that the city has a solid and steadily growing economic base,” he said.

Rano said the provincial government is determined to ensure more residents with disabilities gain access to employment so the city’s development delivers benefits for all.

He stressed that the push aligns with Law No. 8/2016 and Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 4/2022 on people with disabilities.

“We invite all stakeholders to provide equal opportunities for citizens with disabilities, who are an integral part of Jakarta’s population,” he said.

Earlier Saturday, Rano took part in an event marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Ancol, North Jakarta, where he reiterated Jakarta’s goal of becoming an inclusive and sustainable global city.

He said the city government is working to broaden spaces for expression for residents with disabilities through programs in arts, education, employment, transportation and public services.

“This international day also provides momentum for deeper cross-sector cooperation to create innovation and improve accessibility across Jakarta,” he said.
