Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto shared a simple breakfast of fried rice with evacuees and soldiers at a disaster shelter in West Sumatra on Thursday, highlighting hands-on leadership during inspections of emergency relief operations.

Visiting the communal kitchen at the Salareh Aia evacuation post in Agam District, Prabowo checked the morning menu prepared by Indonesian military cooks assisted by displaced women from the nearby villages.

The breakfast, fried rice topped with a sunny-side-up egg, was being served to residents staying at the shelter following recent disasters that forced families from their homes.

Prabowo greeted and shook hands with the cooks before one soldier prepared a full plate for the president, who jokingly asked whether the dish was made specially for his visit.

Fried rice has frequently been cited by Prabowo as his favorite food, and he appeared relaxed as he tasted the meal inside the shelter complex at Salareh Aia.

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, standing nearby, asked about the flavor, drawing a brief assessment from Prabowo, who described the fried rice as tasty and satisfying.

Asked by reporters, Prabowo repeated his praise, noting the egg accompaniment, before finishing the entire plate and thanking the soldiers who had cooked for evacuees.

He then shook hands individually with the military cooks, asking each about their home regions, and later accepted a cup of locally brewed coffee prepared at the shelter kitchen.

“Thank you, take care of yourselves,” Prabowo told the soldiers, before continuing inspections of the evacuation site, where temporary housing was under construction by military personnel.

Earlier Thursday, Prabowo arrived with several cabinet members to review conditions at the shelter, receiving briefings on emergency facilities and meeting residents seeking reassurance.

He toured the camp, entered a trauma-healing tent to check on children, and was accompanied by senior officials including the disaster agency chief, defense minister, military commander, police chief and other ministers.

Officials accompanying Prabowo included the interior minister, cabinet secretary, communications chief and energy minister, underscoring the government’s coordinated response to disaster relief and recovery efforts across affected communities in the province.
