Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Police investigated an object suspected to be a bomb discovered outside the GKPS Church in the Baranangsiang shophouse complex, Kosambi, Bandung, on Friday.

ANTARA’s journalist at the scene reported a team from the Bomb Disposal Unit (Jibom) of the West Java Regional Police Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) arrived to secure the area by sterilizing the surroundings and setting up police tape to keep the public at a safe distance.

Asep Kamaludin, the security officer for the ITC Kosambi shophouse complex, said he received the first report at around 8:30 a.m. from a shophouse manager named Agus.

“I received a report about a suspicious box that looked like a bomb,” Kamaludin stated.

After receiving the report, he immediately documented the object using his cell phone without approaching it.

“I quickly took a photo with my phone. I didn’t dare touch it or get too close because it looked suspicious,” he continued.

Kamaludin then reported the discovery to the Sumur Bandung Police for further action.

He explained that the suspicious object was box-shaped, resembling a cardboard box, with several visible cables.

“It was shaped like a cardboard box. Cables were sticking out, clearly visible, so I didn’t dare touch it,” he said.

He estimated that he was about a meter away from the object when he first saw it. The discovery was made near the GKPS Church building in the ITC Kosambi shophouse complex.

He confirmed that no worship services or other activities were taking place inside the church at the time.

“It was near the church building. I was about a meter away. I didn’t get too close,” he added.

As of this writing, police officers were still securing the area and conducting further investigations.
