The dispatch of container trucks carrying the anchovies took place at Diponegoro University in Teluk Awur Village, Jepara District, on Saturday.
Diponegoro University Rector Suharnomo said in Jepara on Saturday that the export was the result of cooperation between Japanese companies Marutetsu and Godai, Diponegoro University, and local fisheries entrepreneurs in Jepara.
Japan, he noted, is known for its stringent quality standards for imported products, particularly fisheries commodities. However, the anchovy products developed under the guidance of Diponegoro University and its local partners have met Japan’s export certification requirements.
“Japan is not an easy market to enter. The process is extremely rigorous and strict. Fortunately, the products developed by Diponegoro University and partners in Jepara have passed export certification,” Suharnomo said.
He added that the latest shipment marked the fourth export to Japan, with a volume of 7.2 tons, bringing the cumulative total to dozens of tons.
Diponegoro University has committed to ensuring the sustainability of the exports by continuously improving business processes and enhancing product quality to meet Japanese standards.
“This is not only about Diponegoro University, but about empowering services and products so they generate significantly higher added value. The main challenge is maintaining quality and sustainability,” Suharnomo said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono emphasized the importance of sustainability in managing anchovy resources. He said conservation efforts must be strengthened to ensure that exports can continue in a sustainable manner.
“The most important aspect is sustainability. Anchovy conservation must be maintained so production can recover and exports are not merely a one-off activity, but sustainable,” Trenggono said.
The successful export is expected to serve as a model of collaboration among universities, industry, and local communities in enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia’s fisheries products in the international market.
