“Synergy among stakeholders is the key to smooth public mobility during the Christmas and New Year travel season,” Purwagandhi said while accompanying Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya on a visit to the command post at the Ministry of Transportation, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
During the visit, the minister expressed appreciation to ministries and agencies, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and private transport operators for their cooperation in facilitating public mobility throughout the year-end holiday mobility.
According to Purwagandhi, effective communication and coordination among stakeholders allow the public to travel safely and smoothly.
“A clear example we appreciate is the cooperation among various parties to improve ferry services on the Merak-Bakauheni route,” he said.
He explained that on the Java-Sumatra crossing, since the previous holiday period, the Ministry of Transportation and relevant stakeholders have distributed traffic flows across three ports: Ciwandan and Bojonegara, managed by Pelindo, and Merak, operated by PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry.
“This year, we have added Bandar Samudera Port, bringing the total to four ports,” Purwagandhi said.
Overall, collaboration and synergy have been strengthened across all modes of transportation, including land, sea, air, and rail, to support smooth public mobility during the year-end holiday season.
In the land transport sector, the government has prepared 31,433 buses with a total capacity of around 1.21 million passengers. In sea transportation, 715 seaworthy vessels have been readied with a capacity of up to 2.89 million passengers.
Meanwhile, to support air travel and ferry crossings, 388 aircraft with a capacity of 7.69 million passengers and 253 ferry vessels with a capacity of 5.01 million passengers have been prepared.
In the rail sector, a total of 2,670 units of rolling stock and train sets have been prepared, with a carrying capacity of around 3.5 million intercity passengers, 2.9 million regional passengers, and 51.6 million commuter passengers.
The readiness of transportation facilities is supported by various operators, including Perum Damri, Pelni, ASDP Ferry, PT KAI, regionally owned rail operators, Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Pelita Air, as well as private operators in land, sea and ferry, rail, and air transportation.
To ensure that policies, operational measures, and on-the-ground responses are integrated and timely, the minister said cross-sector coordination is being carried out through the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year Transport Command Post at the Ministry of Transportation headquarters.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya urged all relevant stakeholders to ensure that public services during the year-end holiday travel period run optimally and improve on last year’s performance.
“This command post is very effective. I ask everyone involved to complement each other so that, hopefully, there are no accidents due to negligence. If there are any difficulties, report them immediately so they can be addressed promptly,” Teddy said.
