Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered government aides and security personnel to take all necessary measures to ensure smooth and safe celebrations of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year nationwide.

Chief of the National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo conveyed the president's directive during an inspection at Merak Port in Banten, West Java, on Monday, alongside Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

"Mr. President is giving full attention to activities during the year-end holidays. He has instructed us to provide conveniences and top-notch services for residents traveling during the holiday period, responding to the challenging weather conditions that have been forecast," he noted in a statement here.

He highlighted the importance of all relevant institutions paying close attention to disaster risks in Banten Province during the holidays, citing a report from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

According to Prabowo, the BMKG has flagged Banten as one of the provinces expected to experience heavy rainfall as 2025 draws to a close.

Reflecting on Cyclone Senyar, which triggered widespread floods and landslides in Sumatra in late November, the police chief urged all personnel to take into account weather forecasts and other pieces of information from the BMKG to anticipate risks.

"I want you to pay attention to risks and do not underestimate them. Continue to follow updates from the BMKG and forward information to the public," he told his ranks.

The general also drew attention to year-end sea travel, urging readiness to take anticipatory measures against adverse weather conditions and dangerous waves.

"It is crucial to provide safe public waiting places, enhance communication, and prepare equipment and personnel to handle possible issues caused by heavy rainfall and other factors," Prabowo affirmed.

During his visit to Merak Port, the Polri leader reviewed a range of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure, including two disaster response posts, a personnel post, three search and rescue vehicles, a fire truck, a tow truck, and an ambulance.
