Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the government projects around 1.45 million foreign tourists will visit Indonesia during the year-end Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Speaking during her visit to Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday, she added that domestic tourist movements are expected to reach 128 million over the same period.

"We estimate some 3.4 million (of the projected tourists) will travel by air," Wardhana stated.

The minister said that Bali, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta are among the cities expected to be the most visited during the year-end holiday.

"There are many popular destinations, but Bali remains the favorite. Visits to Yogyakarta are also increasing," she said.

According to Wardhana, the ministry is ready to optimize the expected tourist surge by preparing travel packages and intensifying various promotional activities.

These efforts include organizing tourism expos and forums, partnering with online travel agencies, and rolling out the “Indonesia Great Sale” promotion from December 18, 2025, to January 4, 2026, she noted.

“The shopping programs this month offer rebates of 18–20 percent to encourage more foreign tourists to shop in Indonesia,” Wardhana said, adding that she is working with stakeholders to improve tax refund facilities at airports.

The ministry has also identified 244 events across various regions that can be leveraged to boost tourism during the year-end holiday period.

As safety factors remain important in tourism, Wardhana said that her side has issued a circular to instruct regional authorities, tourism associations, and tourism destination operators to mitigate risks and ensure safe and comfortable travel for tourists.
