Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Diktisaintek) has formalized a partnership with the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) to enhance the quality of Indonesian citizens working abroad.

Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, Diktisaintek Minister Brian Yuliarto highlighted his ministry’s commitment to enhancing and aligning the skills and competencies of Indonesian university graduates with international standards and the demands of overseas job markets.

“Under this initiative, we aim to assist higher education graduates, including those with vocational backgrounds, in securing employment abroad,” he said, noting that one of the core measures is strengthening foreign language proficiency among prospective migrant workers.

Yuliarto described the collaboration as essential to boosting the competitiveness of Indonesia’s human resources at the international level, demonstrating the nation’s capability to achieve global excellence.

“This effort is part of what we call ‘brain circulation,’ which is aimed at cultivating talent with expertise in specific fields to support Indonesia’s advancement and growth,” the minister stated.

In turn, P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin explained that the newly established cooperation is primarily designed to produce high-quality migrant workers who meet the global qualifications, thereby addressing the existing mismatch between university output and the competencies demanded overseas.

He noted that the partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as a direct follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive on strengthening human resource development.

“Today’s MoU marks a strategic milestone in our human development efforts at the upstream stage,” Mukhtarudin added.

Under the agreement, he noted that P2MI is tasked with mapping employment opportunities abroad, including skill requirements and certification standards, and sharing this information with the Diktisaintek Ministry.

“In this way, we aim to build an integrated migrant worker management system,” he concluded.
