Speaking at a press conference at Jakarta Cathedral on Thursday, he said this year's Christmas message, jointly issued with the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) and the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI), carries the theme "God Is Present to Save the Family."
He said the concept of "save" in the Christmas context goes beyond spiritual meaning and reflects a process of recovery from weakness toward a stronger life.
The restoration, he said, is expected to take place within families, communities, churches, society and the nation as a whole.
"We all, in whatever role we have, need continuous restoration and strengthening of life," Suharyo said.
He emphasized that the family is the center of communal life and requires serious attention amid ongoing economic, social and cultural challenges.
Through Christmas, the faithful are encouraged not only to commemorate the birth of Jesus liturgically but also to draw inspiration to build loving families.
Suharyo said Christian faith must be expressed through concrete attitudes and actions in daily life, particularly within the family.
He added that this year's Christmas message is expected to motivate families to continue growing in faith and love despite present challenges.
Separately, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar called on Christians to view Christmas as a reminder to nurture the family as the first place where love, faith and hope are formed.
Amid social polarization, economic pressures and the lingering impacts of disasters, he said the home must once again serve as a safe space for faith and humanity.
