“Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf has declared a second 14‑day extension of the emergency response to hydrometeorological disasters, effective from December 26, 2025, to January 8, 2026,” government spokesperson Muhammad MTA said on Thursday.
Speaking in Banda Aceh, Muhammad explained that the decision was made after a meeting of provincial leaders and based on rapid assessments from the disaster response command post.
The extension also followed a virtual coordination meeting with representatives from affected cities and districts, alongside an evaluation involving Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
Governor Manaf has instructed all provincial institutions and stakeholders to accelerate the delivery of logistics to disaster victims, including those still stranded in hard‑to‑reach areas.
“We must handle, serve, and protect the victims while ensuring their basic needs are met in line with human rights standards,” Muhammad emphasized.
He stressed the government’s responsibility to guarantee access to quality medical services by maximizing hospital and health center operations and establishing emergency health posts across impacted areas.
“It is essential to prepare for infrastructure reconstruction,” he added.
The governor also directed agencies to prioritize the needs of children affected by the disasters, including the provision of school supplies to ensure teaching and learning activities can continue despite the emergency.
“The government of Aceh continues recovery efforts under the supervision of the central government,” Muhammad concluded.
