He said such sustained efforts are crucial to accelerating recovery for communities affected by the disaster.
During his visit to the disaster-hit area, the president directly observed the work of personnel from the police, the Indonesian military, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Public Works (PU), and other institutions. Despite limited resources, the teams have continued to work together to assist residents and search for victims.
“I asked how long you have been here, and some of you have been here for 20 days, others for weeks. Once again, thank you,” Prabowo said during his visit to the Batu Hula evacuation post in South Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
On the occasion, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to assisting disaster victims, including efforts to rebuild homes that were damaged or destroyed.
The head of state noted that post-disaster recovery efforts are showing encouraging progress, while stressing that the government remains vigilant. He called on all relevant institutions to continue working intensively to speed up the recovery of affected communities.
Prabowo also urged all segments of society to look ahead with enthusiasm and optimism, expressing confidence that Indonesia will emerge stronger through cooperation and solidarity among its people.
Marking the turn of the new year, he emphasized that the government would take firm action against lawbreakers, particularly those whose violations harm the interests of the Indonesian people.
“We face the future with enthusiasm and optimism. Our country will grow stronger, and we will take firm action against anyone who breaks the law. We will revoke the licenses of those who fail to comply with laws and regulations, and we will not hesitate to act,” he said.
Prabowo spent the New Year with displaced residents at the Kodam I/Bukit Barisan health post in South Tapanuli District.
“Happy New Year 2026. May the Almighty always grant us all the best,” he told the refugees.
