Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s state-run electricity firm PLN said it is ready to supply safe and reliable power for the construction of 15,000 temporary housing units for residents displaced by floods and landslides across Sumatra, underscoring government efforts to speed up recovery.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said on Saturday that the company is fully prepared to carry out government directives to ensure electricity availability at all temporary housing sites built for disaster-affected communities.

“We guarantee that every completed housing unit will be equipped with electricity so residents can immediately occupy their homes safely, comfortably and with dignity,” Prasodjo said, stressing PLN’s role in emergency response.

He noted that the temporary shelters are being constructed according to emergency housing standards, with attention not only to physical structures but also to essential services that support daily life.

Electricity supply, Prasodjo said, is treated as a top priority alongside access to clean water, adequate sanitation facilities and support for basic health services within the temporary housing areas.

PLN has already prepared electricity infrastructure at the temporary housing site in Aceh Tamiang, including the installation of transformers, distribution networks and individual electricity meters for each housing unit.

The power grid at the site has been fully connected and tested, and is considered sufficient to meet the needs of residents as well as public facilities such as lighting, kitchens and communal areas.

The handover of 600 completed temporary housing units in Aceh Tamiang to the local government is scheduled for January 8, 2026, after which the homes will be allocated to affected families.

Earlier, Danantara Indonesia Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria, accompanied by Prasodjo, inspected progress at the Aceh Tamiang site, including the readiness of the electricity infrastructure supporting the shelters.

Prasodjo said stable electricity is a basic requirement to help residents resume normal activities, from cooking and studying to accessing information and communication.

“Our brothers and sisters have lost not only their homes but also their sense of security. PLN is committed to restoring that comfort by ensuring dependable electricity in every temporary housing area,” he said.
