Spokesperson for Aceh’s Flood and Landslide Handling Post, Murthalamuddin, said in Banda Aceh on Tuesday that villages which electricity supply was cut off by the disaster, as well as those not yet connected to the state electricity company PLN, are being prioritized for the generator distribution.
The generators are being deployed to and distributed from evacuation shelters that currently lack electricity. Each unit can supply power to one shelter and around 10 nearby houses, he explained.
The 224 villages set to receive the generators are spread across Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, Langsa City, Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, Pidie Jaya, North Aceh, Bireuen, West Aceh, and Gayo Lues districts.
Murthalamuddin added that the ministry has also delivered supporting equipment, including 100 meters of 2x2.5 mm NYM electrical cable, power outlets, duct tape, and 300 liters of fuel to operate the generators for up to 15 days.
“Hopefully, this assistance can immediately help meet the basic needs of disaster-affected residents, particularly by providing lighting and supporting activities at evacuation posts,” he said.
Previously, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said that his administration had sent 1,000 generators and 3,000 cooking stoves to assist disaster victims across Sumatra.
The aid was transported using Hercules aircraft. Bahlil noted that the 1,000 generators constitute the first batch and that additional units will be sent as needed. He added that the ministry is coordinating with Pertamina to ensure adequate fuel supplies for operating the generators.
