The Presidential Staff Office, or KSP, delivered 10 floating pumps to flood-hit areas of Pidie and Pidie Jaya Districts on Saturday, working alongside the military and police to clean homes and public facilities.
KSP senior expert Iwan Eka said the deployment aimed to ensure government assistance delivered tangible benefits for residents still struggling with standing water, mud and damaged infrastructure.
Aid sent earlier by KSP arrived via Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport in Aceh Besar before being transported directly to affected villages in Pidie and Pidie Jaya Districts, he said.
Of the 10 floating pumps dispatched, seven have arrived and are already in use, while the remaining units are still being transported, according to KSP.
Iwan said lingering floodwater, thick mud and shortages of basic necessities, especially for babies and children, remained the most urgent challenges facing communities after the disaster.
The pumps were chosen for their portability and ability to operate in densely populated neighborhoods inaccessible to heavy machinery, he said, adding they were meant as working tools rather than symbolic aid.
The equipment is being used to remove pooled water, wash away mud and accelerate drying in homes and public spaces so residents can return more quickly.
In Lamkawe Village, Kembang Tanjong Subdistrict, the pumps were deployed to clean sports fields and recreational facilities buried under mud, which authorities prioritized for community use.
In Tiba Mesjid Village, Mutiara Timur Subdistrict, cleanup focused on residential areas, with crews pumping out water and flushing mud from houses and surrounding lanes.
Similar operations were carried out in Dayah Usen Village, Meurah Dua Subdistrict in Pidie Jaya, one of the areas slowest to recover after the floods.
Beyond pumps, KSP distributed clothing, household essentials and children’s toys, aiming to provide comfort and a sense of security for families during the recovery phase.
The assistance follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive emphasizing empathy, mutual cooperation and sustained government presence in disaster response, Iwan said.
To strengthen follow-up efforts, KSP is preparing six reverse osmosis water purification units to supply clean drinking water, which will be sent soon to Pidie and Pidie Jaya.
KSP expressed appreciation to local governments, the military, police, volunteers and community leaders involved in relief efforts, saying coordinated action was key to faster, more resilient recovery.
