Bandung (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said the restoration of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) infrastructure in disaster hit areas of Aceh has reached 95 percent.

Speaking during the closing of the Joint Task Force for Monitoring Telecommunications Service Quality in Bandung on Monday, Hafid said connectivity was functioning with networks operating at relatively high uptime.

“Aceh’s connectivity has reached 95 percent across all operators and is operating with relatively high uptime. We hope this helps residents remain connected,” she stated.

According to the minister, of the total 3,208 BTS units in the province, only seven remain under repair.

She concluded that BTS-based communication infrastructure in Aceh have effectively been restored.

Hafid stressed that the restoration of BTS facilities is crucial to ensure residents can stay in touch with their families and access emergency information.

However, not all restored BTS units can immediately resume operations, as they still depend on the availability of stable electricity supply or backup generators support.

Previously, Hafid noted that several areas, including Bener Meriah, Takengon, and Aceh Tamiang, require further handling due to significant challenges in network recovery.

To address the issue, the ministry has encouraged telecommunications operators to increase the deployment of generators as a temporary measure, while power infrastructure continues to be restored.

The government, together with operators, has also consolidated data and continues to urge accelerated network recovery amid challenging field conditions.

The timeline for full restoration remains highly dependent on the recovery of supporting infrastructure, particularly electricity.
