Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry has sent a second batch of volunteers, comprising 366 healthcare professionals, to provide medical treatment and healthcare services to people in Aceh Province affected by floods and landslides.

The ministry’s Head of the Health Policy Development Agency (BKPK), Asnawi Abdullah, said on Monday that the volunteers will serve from January 5 to 18, 2026.

“The main focus of this mission is to ensure that health services run optimally, whether in hospitals, public health centers, or healthcare units in shelters and affected areas,” Abdullah said.

He explained that the second deployment followed an assessment of conditions on the ground after the first batch was sent. Additional volunteers will be deployed if needed.

According to Abdullah, the volunteers are expected to provide assistance in several areas, including Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, Bireuen, Pidie Jaya, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, and North Aceh, which he said require significant support from healthcare professionals.

Abdullah expressed hope that the recovery of healthcare services would go hand in hand with social and economic recovery efforts, including the construction of temporary housing that has been inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Hopefully, people affected by the disaster can return to normal life, maintain their health, and resume activities, work, and worship in peace,” he said.

Previously, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, the Health Ministry sent the first batch of volunteers to Aceh to assist disaster victims.

The volunteers consist of healthcare professionals, including opticians, neurologists, pediatricians, general practitioners, radiologists, environmental health experts, nutritionists, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

The ministry’s Director General for Health Human Resources, Dr. Yuli Farianti, expressed her appreciation for the dedication of the volunteer healthcare workers.

Since the third day after the disaster, the ministry has continued to dispatch medical personnel to affected areas. Initially, deployments were carried out directly by hospitals.
