Hambalang, Bogor (ANTARA) -

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has formed a task force to accelerate post-disaster recovery in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, appointing Interior Minister Tito Karnavian as its chairman.

The decision was taken during a cabinet retreat in Hambalang, West Java, on Tuesday night, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said.

"The president has decided to form a task force to accelerate post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in three provinces," he told reporters.

Richard Tampubolon was named deputy chairman, supported by an advisory council chaired by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno. Prasetyo said Karnavian was chosen to ensure effective coordination among ministries and regional governments.

The task force’s immediate priority is building temporary and permanent housing for displaced residents, while the government finalizes damage assessments and prepares compensation for homes with minor and moderate damage.

Several ministries and agencies, including the police and the Public Works Ministry, are already involved in aid distribution and housing construction, as the task force is expected to move as quickly as possible, Prasetyo said.
