Head of the ministry’s Center for Health Crisis Response, Agus Jamaludin, said on Tuesday that the volunteers have been deployed across various health facilities, including 309 public health centers, 23 state-owned hospitals, and 377 health posts covering 1,008 shelters.
"We are sending all available healthcare personnel, and continuously monitor the distribution of volunteers to ensure that aid can reach all places, according to their respective needs," Jamaludin said.
All dispatched volunteers are coordinated through the Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC), as per disaster mitigation procedure by the ministry, he said.
The HEOC was established within the first three days of the disaster in all affected areas. It assesses healthcare needs and ensures effective and efficient services by managing volunteer deployment and movement between locations, Jamaludin explained.
According to cumulative data from the Health Sub-Cluster, the volunteers are spread across 18 districts and cities, as well as at the provincial level. Of the total, most are concentrated in Pidie Jaya District, with 1,065 volunteers stationed, and 923 in Aceh Tamiang.
He said that the current challenge in the initiative is ensuring the volunteers' transfers to different posts, or rotation, can still be carried out without disrupting healthcare services.
On average, each volunteer is stationed for 10-12 days, he said. The rotation is to ensure that every health facility has volunteers on standby, continuously.
By profession, nurses make up the largest group with 923 personnel, followed by 736 general practitioners, 264 specialists, and 766 other medical professionals. The deployment also includes 179 pharmacists, 124 midwives, and 350 non-medical personnel supporting the operations.
Additional personnel such as environmental health and sanitation experts, logistics officers, nutritionists, psychologists, and entomologists have also been deployed to support comprehensive healthcare services.
Some 2,399 volunteers are from government institutions, and 780 are from academia, whereas 307 are from non-governmental organizations, and 233 from professional associations, he added.
