Baznas Chairman Noor Achmad said the initiative is part of the agency’s commitment to ensuring children can continue accessing education even after disasters.
“Baznas is committed to ensuring that children’s education continues. Economic constraints caused by the disasters must not become a barrier to learning,” he said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday.
Achmad explained that the aid packages, consisting of school bags, shoes, and uniforms, are being distributed in stages to students across the three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra.
In addition, Baznas is providing religious equipment as part of its efforts to support social and spiritual recovery. The assistance includes 30,000 sarongs and prayer garments, 30,000 copies of the Quran, as well as carpets and sound system packages for 500 mosques across the affected areas.
“Sumatra remains a priority because several regions are still grappling with the impacts of floods and landslides that directly affect education and social life,” he said.
He emphasized that Baznas will continue to support affected communities, not only during the emergency response phase but also throughout the recovery process, especially to ensure that educational services for children remain uninterrupted.
Devastating floods and landslides struck the three provinces of Sumatra in late November 2025 following high-intensity rainfall.
According to National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) records as of Monday (January 5), the death toll from the disasters across the three provinces has reached 1,177, while 147 people remain missing.
