Indonesia has opened a central disaster recovery command post in Aceh to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts after disasters struck three provinces simultaneously, government officials said.
The National Task Force for Accelerating Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction established the main command post in Banda Aceh, citing Aceh as the worst-affected area, along with North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
Safrizal Zakaria Ali, director general of regional administration development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, said personnel have been deployed and intensive assistance has been provided across Sumatra since the emergency response phase.
“The Banda Aceh command post will function as an integrated control center to ensure that recovery efforts are coordinated, focused, and well targeted,” Safrizal said in a statement on Friday.
He said he had been assigned by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian to directly oversee operations in Aceh and North Sumatra since November 27, 2025.
According to Safrizal, the task force is prioritizing the construction of adequate housing for displaced residents. Damaged homes will be handled through compensation schemes to enable affected families to return as quickly as possible.
The command post will also serve as a public communication hub, providing regular updates and engaging national and local media, including through social media platforms, he said.
The task force was formed under instructions from President Prabowo Subianto, who appointed Tito Karnavian as its head. The task force is supported by Deputy Head Richard Tampubolon and a steering committee led by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the appointments reflect the scale of the disaster affecting the three provinces and are intended to strengthen coordination between the central and regional governments.
