“The Ministry of Environment is currently evaluating local governments for the Adipura Award, so it is important to strengthen waste management innovations at the village level,” Hendropriyono said in a statement received on Friday.
He made the remarks during the 2026 Village Day celebration in Butuh Village, Boyolali District, Central Java, on Thursday, January 15, stressing that villages serve as a key pillar in both national waste management efforts and global climate resilience.
Hendropriyono said the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s sixth Asta Cita mission, which emphasizes development starting from villages and grassroots communities to promote equitable economic growth and poverty reduction, including by integrating innovative waste management into village development.
Innovation at the village level, he said, is essential given the frontline role villages play in addressing environmental issues.
He added that cleanliness standards in villages will become a key factor in assessing regional environmental performance.
The achievements of these villages, he said, are expected to set a new benchmark for villages nationwide in applying circular economy and zero-waste principles to create sustainable and healthy environments.
Hendropriyono reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the national development agenda.
“We aim to carry out the president’s mandate to build from villages and grassroots communities, while ensuring proper and sustainable waste management,” he said.
