Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto convened a meeting with leaders of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Ministry of Defense at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to convey strategic directives.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed on Saturday that he joined senior defense officials at the meeting, which was held on Friday (Jan. 16).

"As commander-in-chief of the TNI, the president outlined several directives on defense, security, and geostrategic plans to military elites," he said when contacted in Jakarta.

Wijaya did not elaborate on the geostrategic plans discussed during the closed meeting.

Photos uploaded by the Presidential Secretariat, Cabinet Secretariat, and the State Secretariat Ministry showed the discussion taking place around a round table, with President Prabowo seated at the center of one side.

Several top military figures appeared in the photos, including TNI Deputy Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Tonny Harjono, and Chief of the TNI General Staff Lt. Gen. Richard Taruli Horja Tampubolon.

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi were seated to the left and right of President Prabowo, respectively.

In a press release, the Presidential Secretariat described the defense talks as part of President Prabowo’s “regular agenda in his capacity as commander-in-chief of the TNI.”

“The routine meeting reflects President Prabowo’s commitment to safeguarding state sovereignty and national stability through direct and continuous communication with TNI top brass,” the secretariat said.

It added that the head of state used the meeting to stress the importance of maintaining synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force while pursuing continuous modernization and strengthening of Indonesia’s defense posture to protect national interests.
