Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has completed the construction of temporary housing units for victims of flash floods and landslides in Manyang Cut Village, Meureudu Sub-district, Pidie Jaya District, Aceh.

BNPB Expert Staff Agus Marsanto said on Saturday, January 17, that 10 temporary housing units have been completed and are ready to be handed over to the local government. The shelters are intended to accommodate 50 affected families.

"Construction of the units began on January 1, 2026, on approximately 2,000 square meters of land, with the involvement of a local contractor", he said.

BNPB ensured that each unit is equipped with basic facilities, including electricity supplied by state utility PLN and access to clean water through drilled wells.

Marsanto explained that the temporary housing is designated for residents whose homes were severely damaged by the disaster.

In addition to providing temporary shelters, the government is also distributing Housing Waiting Funds (DTH) to residents who are unable to occupy the temporary units.

Each shelter measures 3.6 meters by 4.8 meters and includes a bathroom measuring 1.2 meters by 1.2 meters, as well as a terrace measuring 1.2 meters by 3.6 meters, he said.

Beyond the 10 completed units, BNPB is planning to build 13 additional temporary shelters to accommodate 65 families. Construction of the additional units is currently around 20 percent complete.

Marsanto expressed hope that the shelters would provide safe and decent temporary housing while supporting the recovery process of disaster-affected communities.

He added that BNPB, in coordination with the local government, is working to accelerate the provision of temporary housing in Pidie Jaya District so residents can move in before February, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

Pidie Jaya District is currently in a transition phase from emergency response to recovery, which serves as a bridge toward post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction.

The transitional emergency-to-recovery period is set to last 180 days, from January 8 to July 6, 2026, according to a local official.
