Governor Pramono Anung said that overall, the city's school bus service would serve up to 41 thousand students across the city.
“Today the Jakarta provincial government is once again launching disability-friendly school transportation. We are deploying 32 buses that will serve five new routes and add to five routes that already existed,” he said.
Anung explained that with the addition of the 32 disability-friendly school buses, students with special needs would be able to travel to school more easily and safely.
This program is part of efforts to ensure the right to education for all children, including persons with disabilities.
As a global and inclusive city, Jakarta must be disability-friendly. “Hopefully these bus facilities can help our children achieve their dreams,” Anung said.
Jakarta Transportation Office head Syafrin Liputo explained that the school bus fleet expansion was carried out through the procurement of 32 disability-friendly school buses, consisting of 13 microbuses and 19 medium-sized buses.
All units are prepared to open five new routes that have undergone operational trials.
The addition aims to reach five more special needs schools across Jakarta, ensuring students with disabilities have access to safe and comfortable transportation.
The five new routes include Regular Route 32 Yayasan Pendidikan Anak Cacat-Ciledug, Zoning Route 12 Rawa Bebek Flat-Rorotan, Zoning Route 16 BNN Cawang-Cipinang via Jatinegara, Zoning Route 17 Kampung Rambutan-Lebak Bulus, and Zoning Route 18 Permata Hijau-Lebak Bulus.
Each disability-friendly bus is equipped with special facilities such as wheelchair lifts and onboard assistants. Medium-sized buses can accommodate four wheelchairs and nine passenger seats.
Meanwhile, microbuses have a capacity of two wheelchairs and seven passenger seats. “Inside the bus, there is a driver and crew members who help students board and alight and operate the wheelchair lift,” he said.
